Chad Duell leaves 'General Hospital' after 14 years

After a long run on "General Hospital," Chad Duell has decided to check out.

On Saturday, the Daytime Emmy winner announced his departure from the daytime drama based in the fictional Port Charles, which he had been with for 14 years, as Fox News reported.

Michael Corinthos III, played by Duell, is the adoptive son of infamous mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), and the show has been aired on ABC since 2010.

From The Actor

“After many incredible years with General Hospital, I’ve decided to step away from the show,” the actor wrote on Instagram.

“This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life. I’m beyond grateful to [executive producer] Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey."

In addition, Duell, 37, who received his Emmy for supporting actor in 2015, expressed gratitude to the show's devoted viewers for their "unwavering support and for letting Michael Corinthos to be a part of your lives."

“Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me,” he added alongside a cast photo. “This isn’t a goodbye—it’s a see you later.”

About the Character

The character of Duell, a love child that intertwined the rival Quartermaine and Corinthos families, was born onscreen in 1997 and has been the subject of a contentious custody dispute ever since.

Dylan Cash took the role of portraying a younger version of Michael from 2002 to 2008 as the character aged on television, and Drew Garrett briefly represented the character of an adolescent version in 2009.

The character was assumed by Duell in 2010, following Garrett's departure from the program. Robert Adamson, who starred in "Young and the Restless," also temporarily played the role in 2022 and earlier this year due to a scheduling conflict.

From the Producer

In a tweet, executive producer Frank Valentini expressed his sadness at the news of Duell's departure, reflected on the actor's tenure on the show, and announced that the role will not be recast. The last episode of Duell, he said, would air in 2025.

“I have loved working with Chad over the years and wish him nothing but the best. He is a terrific actor and will be missed by everyone at #GH,” Valentini wrote Saturday on X, adding,

“There are no plans to recast his role at this time, but you never know in daytime. I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.”
