Clinton predicts first female president will be a conservative
Former President Bill Clinton believes that the first female president of the United States will be a Republican.
Clinton made the remark, according to the New York Post, during a recently recorded interview.
This all comes after the 2024 presidential election, in which Democratic Party leaders attempted to make Vice President Kamala Harris the next president of the United States. It, obviously, did not go well for the Democrats.
In the post-mortem, some on the left are trying to claim that Harris lost because Americans are just not ready for a female president. Those on the right, however, argue that Harris lost because she lacked merit.
Clinton weighs in
Clinton weighed in on the situation during a recent interview that he did with CBS News. There, host Tracy Smith asked the former president whether American is reader for a female president.
He replied:
Maybe. I think in some ways we’ve moved to the right as a reaction to all the turmoil. And I think if Hillary had been nominated in 2008, she would’ve walked in, just like Obama did.
It is not exactly clear what Clinton is referring to by "all the turmoil." Clinton went on to suggest that the political left's agenda makes it harder for a woman to win the presidency.
"Well, I think all these cultural battles that we’re fighting make it harder in some ways for a woman to run," he said.
Smith followed up, asking, "So, you think it has more to do with party than gender?" to which Clinton replied, "No. Although I think it would probably be easier for a conservative Republican woman to win."
Background
Clinton, in the interview, expressed his belief that we will "have a female president pretty soon." He did not speculate, however, about who the first female president might be.
One would think that it would not be Harris. The fact of the matter is that she was one of the first to bow out of the 2020 Democratic primary, she was one of the most unpopular vice presidents of all time, and she got wiped out by President-Elect Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
This would suggest that Harris is just no popular enough to actually become president.
However, a surprising poll was released showing the Democratic voters would choose Harris in 2028. The Daily Mail reports:
The vice president remains at the top of a list of Democratic potential candidates for 2028, according to a new poll, suggesting she still retains high name recognition and goodwill from the party. Harris leads the potential field with 41 percent of the vote, according to a Puck News/Echelon Insights survey.
Many are wondering whether this poll really is accurate. There is little doubt, however, that Republicans would like to face off against Harris again in 2028.
