Chicago Mayor Asked Not to Attend Officer’s Funeral

On November 4, 2024, Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez was shot and killed during what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop.

Martinez, 26, a three-year veteran of the force, approached the car during the stop. Darion McMillian, who was in the passenger seat of the car, allegedly pulled out a pistol and opened fire, killing both the driver and Officer Martinez.

Martinez’s family has reportedly requested that Mayor Brandon Johnson not attend the funeral services.

Don’t Show Your Face

Police officers have had about all they can take from politicians in Chicago.

Johnson ran on a platform of reform, ousting incumbent Lori Lightfoot, but it has just been more of the same.

Murders and shootings continue at a staggering rate, and officers appear to be walking around with a target on their heads.

To that point, Martinez’s family reportedly requested that Johnson not show his face at the services for the fallen officer.

Family friend George Barzydlo stated, “Enrique Martinez’s family called me up this evening and said they could not do this.

“They definitely do not want the mayor at any of the functions for Enrique. Plain and simple to the point.”

The family also requested that the Governor, another Democrat, not attend.

Johnson responded to the request, stating, “The family of Officer Enrique Martinez continues to be in my prayers as they prepare to lay him to rest. I heard from the family and am honoring their request and will no longer plan to attend the honors funeral services.

“This has been an emotional two weeks for the loved ones of Officer Martinez, the Chicago Police Department, and the city of Chicago. We all want to do right by Officer Martinez and give his family and the CPD family space to grieve.

“The focus must remain on Officer Martinez, his loved ones, and the CPD as our city continues to honor his ultimate sacrifice and legacy of service.”

At what point are voters in these big cities going to realize that the Democrat way of doing things just does not work?

Election after election, they put Dems in office as Mayor, and crime rates continue to go up, living conditions worsen, and they do the same thing over and over again.

Sadly, it is officers like Martinez and his family who pay the price for this insanity.
