NY AG Letitia James Promises Resistance Against Trump's Potential Presidential Acts

New York's Top Lawyer Ready to Counter Trump's Moves as Legal Challenges Fade

Following Donald Trump's electoral win, New York Attorney General Letitia James asserts her readiness to counteract any presidential acts of retribution.

Just a day after Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election, New York Attorney General Letitia James voiced her determination to challenge any retaliatory measures from the new administration. During a press conference held Wednesday, James indicated a strategic readiness to protect New Yorkers' rights against potential federal overreach.

James highlighted her collaboration with Democratic attorneys general across the United States, preparing to safeguard civil liberties and respond effectively to any federal directives that could impact the state adversely.

Trump Triumphs in Election, Faces Legal Continuations

Donald Trump emerged victorious against Vice President Kamala Harris in the race, positioning him to be the 47th president, resuming office after his previous tenure as the 45th. This election outcome is expected to influence the numerous legal challenges Trump is currently facing.

The Attorney General's office had actively pursued Trump in a civil trial which recently culminated in a significant ruling. Trump was banned from operating any business in New York for three years, a direct consequence of the case's findings.

The legal proceedings accused the Trump organization of exaggerating asset values to secure more favorable loan terms, leading to a landmark $354 million penalty against Trump, imposed by New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron.

Letitia James Stands Firm Despite Political Shifts

Despite Trump labeling the civil lawsuit as a "politically motivated witch hunt," James has stood firm on her office's decisions and actions. She remains vigilant against any federal policies that might undermine state rights or financial stability.

"We have been working both in my office and with other Democratic AGs across this country to make sure that we would be ready to respond to any attempt to roll back our rights. So here we are. We studied their platforms. We’ve identified certain possibilities, fact patterns. We’ve created contingency plans. So no matter what the next administration throws at us. We’re ready," James declared.

James' comments reflect a deep-seated commitment to maintaining state autonomy and protecting against any punitive measures from the federal government. "We’re ready to respond to their attacks. We’re ready to respond to any attempts to cut or eliminate any funding to the great state of New York, as the governor outlined," she added.

Trump's Legal Road Ahead Amid Presidential Duties

With Trump's return to the presidency, political analysts speculate that his ongoing criminal cases might see a reduction in severity or experience delays. Trump awaits sentencing in Manhattan on 34 felony charges related to falsifying business records. Moreover, he faces ongoing legal issues in Georgia and two federal cases concerning classified documents and election interference.

James, meanwhile, has pledged to keep defending New Yorkers against any actions that she perceives as unjust or retaliatory. "So just so despite what has happened on the national stage, we will continue to stand tall in the face of injustice, revenge, or retribution. We will continue to protect our most vulnerable and marginalized among us. Because it is my sworn duty and responsibility to lead that fight," she passionately stated.

As New York and the nation watch to see how Trump's presidency will unfold amidst these legal battles, James assures her state of continued vigilance and proactive defense. "This is not the time to be fearful, New York. But faithful and steadfast. Knowing that I, as the attorney general, along with my entire team, are guardians of the law. And we are prepared, my friends, to fight back. Thank you," concluded James.
