MI Highway Inferno Leaves at Least 4 Dead
Late Saturday night, a horrifying accident took place on a Michigan highway.
According to reports, at least four people are dead, the death toll could go higher after the cleanup of the accident takes place.
The accident/inferno was caused when a semi-truck failed to stop while approaching other vehicles, colliding with them, and then exploding into flames.
Tragedy Strikes
According to the most recent reports on this, the death toll remains at four, with the injury total now having reached 17 people.
Reports stated that a semi-truck was approaching congested traffic on Highway 52, but the driver, for some reason, did not appear to see the traffic jam ahead of him as he approached.
The backup was due to a construction project on that stretch of the highway.
When the truck collided with the cars that were already stopped on the highway, it exploded, which led to other cars catching fire, burning drivers alive inside their vehicles.
Local police stated, "The troopers [from the Lansing and Brighton Post] had just completed a shutdown on westbound I-96 at M-52 on the overpass and had just reopened the expressway.
"A semi-truck with [a] trailer was westbound on the expressway coming up on the stopped traffic. It appears the driver of the semi-truck did not see the backup and could not stop his vehicle in time.
"The semi-truck was in the left lane of travel and struck numerous vehicles. The impact of the crash caused the semi-truck and numerous vehicles to catch fire.”
The photos from the accident looked like a warzone, and that stretch of highway is not expected to be open anytime soon, according to the Michigan State Police.
Michigan has been in the news lately, but for other reasons. It is a key battleground state that will have a huge impact on this election.
We can only hope this tragedy does not get lost in all of that.
Our thoughts go out to all of the families of the victims.
