Fetterman faces tough immigration questions during Joe Rogan podcast appearance

Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. John Fetterman has always been one to speak his mind, but during a recent appearance on a popular podcast, he struggled to reconcile some of party's positions with hard facts presented by the host.

Sitting down for a chat on the Joe Rogan Experience, Fetterman was hard pressed to answer the Rogan's observations and critiques of the current administration's position on immigration, particularly with regard to amnesty, as Fox News reports.

Fetterman grilled

During his chat with Rogan, Fetterman faced tough questioning on the Democrats' stances on immigration and allegations that the party is using new arrivals to transform the fabric of the nation to their political benefit.

At issue for much of the discussion was a failed border bill to which Democrats such as Kamala Harris often point in support of the argument that Republicans do not want to fix the broken immigration system but simply want to campaign on it.

Rogan, however, pointed out that the legislation included a number of provisions Republicans believe to be unpalatable non-starters, something which weakens arguments such as the one repeated by Harris on the campaign trail.

“But didn't that deal involved amnesty?” asked Rogan, who continued, “And didn't that deal also involve a significant number of illegal aliens being allowed into the country every year, I think it was 2 million people?”

After Fetterman admitted as much, Rogan noted, “it was still the same sort of situation, and their fear is exactly what I talked about. That these people will be moved to swing states and that that will be used to essentially rig those states and turn them blue forever,” an assertion the senator did not vigorously counter.

Electoral candor on display

Though Fetterman had a tough time answering Rogan's concerns on the issue of immigration, he has, in recent days, been very clear about what he is observing in his home state ahead of the presidential election, as The Hill reported.

In a late October interview with the New York Times, the senator marveled at the overwhelming support Donald Trump has generated in the Keystone State during the campaign season.

“Anybody spends time driving around, and you can see the intensity. It's astonishing,” Fetterman admitted.

Likening the love Trump receives from Pennsylvanians to that given to pop star Taylor Swift, the lawmaker said, “It's the kind of thing that has taken on its on life on that. And it's like something very special exists there.”

Regardless of one's political disagreements with Fetterman, the frankness and honesty with which he has been going about his job lately is something to which other politicians might do well to emulate.
