AL man sentenced to prison for threats against Fani Willis
Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis is likely breathing a sigh of relief after the latest news.
The lady in charge of taking down Donald Trump in the Peach State seems ready to get back to her mission after a brief detour. Willis had received threatening voicemails from an Alabama man for her investigation and prosecution of the former president.
That man goes by the name of Arthur Ray Hanson II.
Now, Hanson has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for his threatening voicemails.
Hanson said disturbing things in his voicemails that court papers called “racist, expletive-filled language” and also said Willis would “regret the day you were ever [expletive]ing born.”
U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan has released a statement on the news of Hanson’s sentence.
“Public servants have a responsibility to enforce our criminal laws, and anyone who threatens to harm or intimidate them will face the consequences of their actions,” said Buchanan.
Buchanan is right.
Regardless of if you agree with Willis or not, it is never okay to threaten someone.
People like Hanson are the reason so many Trump supporters are painted in a bad light.
There is no place in America for political violence against elected officials.
In fact, research from Combating Terrorism Center at West Point says that the government is “on pace to hit new record highs” for prosecuting those, like Hanson, who are responsible for making threats against government officials.
“Threats do not need to be executed beyond communication for them to be effective agents for instilling fear among victims and, most notably, disrupting democratic processes. Threats to public officials are currently generating substantial damage related to U.S. governance, including discouraging individuals from running for public office,” the center’s research also stated.
We commend the judge on this case for doing the right thing.
It does not matter if you disagree with someone’s political views -- it does not give you the right to threaten their life and give so many other supporters of Trump a bad name.
Do you think Hanson received enough time behind bars for his crimes?
