Republicans celebrating after PA court gives them election win
Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, are celebrating a legal victory related to the 2024 presidential election.
The victory, according to Just the News, came on Wednesday from the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.
Per the outlet:
Former President Donald Trump's campaign and the Republican National Committee won a lawsuit against Bucks County, Pa., on Wednesday to extend early voting by three days.
First, we will look at the case, then we'll look at the Republicans' reaction to the judge's ruling.
Here's what is going on:
The Trump campaign filed a lawsuit this week after voters in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, were turned away from voting before the voting deadline had elapsed.
Law and Crime reports:
On Tuesday, at around 2:45 p.m., voters in line at the Bucks County administration building were told they could no longer request on-demand mail-in ballots. The line was subsequently cut and that aspect of the request process was curtailed for the day. This action by county officials seemingly contradicted some amount of official guidance about the on-demand mail-in process.
Videos have been circulating social media showing police officers turning voters away early. Republicans have alleged that this was a voter suppression effort concocted by the Democrats.
Trump's legal team, essentially argued as much in a lawsuit, and Judge Jeffrey Trauger seemed to agree.
In his order, Trauger wrote:
Defendants actions in turning away voters who sought to apply for a mail-in ballot and receive one in person before the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on October 29, 2024 violated the Pennsylvania Election Code. Defendants shall permit any persons who wishes to apply for, receive, vote, and return a mail-in ballot to appear at the Elections Bureau office and do so during normal business hours before the close of business on November 1, 2024.
Republicans celebrate
Now, Republicans are celebrating the legal victory.
Michael Whatley, the chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), did so in a message that he posted on X following the judge's ruling.
There, he wrote:
PENNSYLVANIA LAWSUIT VICTORY We just won the Trump Campaign/RNC lawsuit against Bucks County, PA. We will now have extended early in-person mail-voting through November 1st — three extra days. We will keep fighting. Go vote! Stay in line!
The Trump campaign has also put out a statement.
The statement reads:
And we are going to continue to fight for that until the last ballot is counted. Today's big victory really represents a defeat for the Democrats' voter suppression efforts. They are seeing the early voting numbers from Republicans in key states across the country, and we are very much again, focused on securing the vote for all Americans.
