Early Voting Signs Very Encouraging for GOP-Trump
Going back to the 2016 election, early voting was treated like the plague by Donald Trump and Republicans.
I have always been on the record that I thought this was a mistake.
In the 2024 cycle, Trump and the GOP reversed course, and it is paying off in a big way.
Early Voting
When I discussed early voting in prior reports, I fully backed it, if for no other reason than the large contingent of Republican voters who are elderly.
While I do not like seeing some states open up voting a month before the election, accepting in-person voting two weeks before the election makes a lot of sense.
First, as noted, with so many elderly in the party, we want them to be able to get to the polls, and there is no guarantee they will be up to it on election day.
Secondly, with the election in November, weather could significantly hurt turnout, so the two-week window allows voters to get to the polls on their schedule.
Third, with only two weeks to go, we are not likely to see any bombshells that would impact the race, so I have zero issues with early voting on those terms.
This year, the RNC, Trump, and most of the party finally got behind early voting, and it is paying off.
So far, 25 states have started early voting, and the turnout by party is nearly even, which is a major improvement for Republicans.
Lara Trump, the new co-chair of the RNC, stated, “I certainly think it’s been really great to see that he is completely on board with not only early voting but mail-in voting and understands how important this is to making sure that he wins on election night.”
The reversal by Trump and the party has clearly influenced early voting, with Georgia reporting that it had nearly a 100% increase in early voting on its first day.
North Carolina totals were also up significantly, which is another good sign for Republicans.
It took the party eight years to figure this out, but they are finally using the Democrat playbook, and it is paying off.
