Trump makes headlines with zingers at high-profile Al Smith
The Al Smith dinner is one of the most noteworthy affairs to take place in New York City each year.
The foundation's website calls the event "a cultural landmark, a living memorial to one of New York’s most beloved sons, remembered as the first Roman Catholic presidential candidate for a major party and a four-term governor who catalyzed labor reform and social security legislation in America."
What happens at the dinner can often be remembered for a LONG time, and Donald Trump just ROCKED the presidential landscape when he brought down the house at the event.
Despite appearing to make nice with Democrat Charles Schumer backstage before the event, Trump did NOT hold back on the senator from New York when it was his turn to speak.
"You’re my guy, you’re my guy," Donald Trump reportedly told Schumer before the event started.
Then, once it came time for Trump to take the stage, he joked about Schumer possibly becoming America's "first woman president."
"Chuck Schumer is here looking very glum. Doesn't he look glum? He looks glum," Trump began. He went on:
But look on the bright side, Chuck, considering how woke your party has become, if Kamala loses, you still have a chance to become the first woman president.
Schumer was NOT amused.
Despite the audience roaring with laughter, Schumer did not look happy.
"The press is reporting the Democrats are starting to panic," Trump had said while speaking. "They are panicking because you know the votes that are coming in are coming in very, very strong -- a certain way. I won’t tell you what way that is."
Perhaps Trump was implying that Democrats are panicking about their decision to force out Joe Biden and appoint Kamala Harris instead, as Schumer was one of the driving forces behind that decision.
Trump claimed that he ran the joke by Schumer before the event and got his approval.
"I actually said, ‘Do you mind if I do that?’ and he said, ‘No, you gotta do what you gotta do.’ He’s a pro, he’s a professional," Trump said. "Chuck Schumer is a good man, actually. I hate to say it. Don’t ever use it against me, please, but I've known him a long time," Trump mused.
