Las Vegas Democrat Sentenced to 28 Years

In 2022, a former elected Democrat official lost it over a story that was published by a local journalist.

According to reports at the time, Robert Telles was upset over an investigative report by Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German. Telles tracked German down at his home, confronted him, then stabbed him to death.

His sentencing trial has been completed, with Telles receiving nearly three decades in prison for murder.

Never See the Light of Day Again

Telles has been sentenced to at least 28 years in prison, with Clark County District Court Judge Michelle Leavitt dropping the hammer on him for this murder.

The murder itself was horrifying enough, but the fact it was against a journalist seems to have brought extra scrutiny from the bench.

The judge added eight years to the minimum sentence of 20 years for “use of a deadly weapon, laying in wait and the age of the reporter.”

At the time of the murder, Telles was serving as an administrator in a county office.

German broke a story about interoffice issues as well as an affair that Telles had with a coworker.

Telles confronted German about the story, then killed him.

Telles was buried from the outset in terms of the evidence, as there was surveillance footage of someone matching his description entering and leaving the property at the time of the murder.

Prosecutor Pamela Weckerly showed the video footage during the trial, more or less guaranteeing a conviction at that point.

Telles, however, denied the charge throughout, telling the jury, “I am not the kind of person who would stab someone. I didn’t kill Mr. German. And that’s my testimony.”

Clearly, they did not believe him.

District Attorney Steve Wolfson, prior to sentencing, stated, “This defendant has shown absolutely no remorse, no acceptance of responsibility.

“And in fact, his behavior is such that I believe he is an extreme danger to the community if he is ever released.”

The judge clearly took that into consideration, all but ensuring that Telles will never see the light of day as a free man again.
