Harris has 'hot mic' moment during Hurricane Wilton speech
Vice President Kamala Harris had a "hot mic" moment on Wednesday.
Fox News reports that the incident occurred while Harris, the Democratic Party's presidential nominee, participated in a live briefing on Hurricane Milton as it hit Florida.
Per the outlet:
Vice President Harris, during a Hurricane Milton update from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Wednesday, covered her mouth and appeared to tell staff she was on a live broadcast after stumbling through a speech to the people of Florida.
This has left many people asking, if Harris cannot even manage to get through a simple briefing on a natural disaster, then how could she possibly run the country?
The details
According to the New York Post, the hot mic moment occurred roughly 20 minutes into Harris's speech to the people of Florida.
Per the outlet:
As National Weather Service Director Ken Graham warned of the potentially devastating flooding that could result from the major hurricane’s landfall, Harris — who was taking part in the briefing over video — appeared to become distracted by something behind the camera.
The vice president then awkwardly covered her mouth with her hands in an attempt to keep the microphone from picking up a message that she was attempting to verbally give to someone else.
It, however, did not work. Even with Harris's hands in front of her mouth, the microphone picked her up saying, "It's a live broadcast."
One would have thought that everyone in the nearby vicinity of Harris would have known that the vice president was participating in "a live broadcast." Then again, maybe that would have been a bad assumption. After all, Harris has done very few "live" broadcasts since becoming the Democratic Party's presidential nominee, and when she does do them, they are heavily scripted, as this one obviously was.
It was a struggle, to say the least
Fox reports that Harris "stumbled" her was through her speech.
Here is part of what she had to say:
To the people of Florida, and in particular, the people of the Tampa region: We urge you to take this storm seriously. As has been said before, this is a storm that is expected to be of historic proportions. And many of you, I know are tough… and you’ve ridden out these hurricanes before. This one’s going to be different.
Fox reports that the vice president "glanced down multiple times, appearing to reference notes or a script."
Harris continued with her warning to the people of Florida, saying:
We ask you that by every measure understand it's going to be more dangerous, more deadly and more catastrophic. So please listen to your local officials. They know what they're talking about. They know what they're doing. And if you are told to evacuate, please evacuate immediately. Do not wait until it is too late.
The whole situation came off as a poorly executed campaign stunt.
