Vegas Democrat Sentenced to 20 Years to Life
There was a story that hit the news in 2022 that was absolutely horrific.
A Nevada politician was being investigated by a local journalist.
That journalist wound up being stabbed to death in a brutal attack, with the suspect eventually being identified as the politician being investigated by the journalist.
That politician, Robert Telles, the former Clark County Public Administrator, has just been sentenced to 20 years to life for the murder of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German.
Going to Jail
German, by all accounts, was well-liked in his community and a respected crime and corruption reporter in Las Vegas.
Telles found himself on the wrong end of an investigative story by German, and wound up stabbing German to death as a result.
Surveillance shows Telles’ car in the area at the time of the murder as well as Telles approaching the side yard where German was stabbed to death.
Video also caught someone leaving the scene in a straw hat and sneakers, the likes of which were located at Telles’ home during a search.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson stated, “The jury hit the ball out of the park this time.
“They hit a home run by getting the right verdict.”
Telles took the stand in his defense and surely did not help his case when it came to sentencing by stating, “I am not the kind of person who would stab someone. I didn’t kill Mr. German. And that’s my testimony.”
Telles lost his primary race after German published a story regarding bullying in Telles’ office as well as an alleged affair that was taking place in the office.
That story effectively ended Telles’ political career, and he appears to have snapped as a result.
He can deny it all he wants, but even though police did not find the murder weapon, the evidence they found in his home as well as the DNA sample that matched Telles that was taken from under the fingernails of German sealed his fate.
