Disgraced former Congressman George Santos expected to plead guilty
Supporters of former Congressman George Santos are likely feeling ROCKED after the latest news.
According to the Washington Examiner, Santos plans to plead GUILTY in a federal fraud case and avoid trial all together.
Santos is currently facing more than twenty felony charges, and it is not looking good for the former congressman.
At this time, we do not know the specifics of his plea deal, but we do know that if he had not taken one, he could have been facing quite the lengthy sentence if convicted.
Santos' charges are no joke -- a United States attorney said back in 2023 that “Santos is charged with stealing people’s identities and making charges on his own donors’ credit cards without their authorization, lying to the FEC and, by extension, the public about the financial state of his campaign. Santos falsely inflated the campaign’s reported receipts with non-existent loans and contributions that were either fabricated or stolen.”
FBI Assistant Director in Charge, James Smith, had always planned to hold Santos accountable for his crimes, saying at the time that “anyone who attempts to violate the law as part of a political campaign will face punishment in the criminal justice system.”
It looks like Smith is a man of his word!
Now, Santos will finally have to face his crimes once and for all.
Accountability is of the utmost importance in this country.
The U.S. attorney has echoed this sentiment, saying that Santo’s “indictment seeks to hold Santos accountable for various alleged fraudulent schemes and brazen misrepresentations.”
Those elected to positions of power have a huge responsibility not to take their power for granted.
Santos is no different, and justice must be served!
As of now, Santos has not commented on the news of him likely pleading guilty.
Do you think Santos will actually admit to his offenses?
