Cannon Grants Trump Motion to Delay Documents Case
Jack Smith does not seem to be able to catch a break in terms of getting Donald Trump into the courtroom.
The latest delay in the case comes from Judge Cannon agreeing to hear arguments on the merits of the Supreme Court's presidential immunity findings.
This is not a significant delay, but it will be at least two weeks for arguments, and then Cannon will have to make her decision.
Jack Smith Setback
When SCOTUS announced its ruling, Chief Justice Roberts penned the majority decision, but most of the other justices offered supporting opinions for the dissents and majority opinion.
Roberts wrote, “The President enjoys no immunity for his unofficial acts, and not everything the President does is official.”
That is arguably the most important line of the ruling because it blows the narrative by Democrats that every act by Trump, including weaponizing the office against his opponents, would be immune to prosecution.
For example, Justice Sotomayor claimed that Trump could use SEAL Team 6 to assassinate a political opponent, which is ludicrous.
I have already stated that if I were the GOP, I would be moving forward with an effort to impeach her based on the misinformation claims she made in her dissent.
To me, that is simply unforgivable that a Supreme Court Justice would deceive the American people like that.
As far as Trump’s legal efforts are concerned, I doubt the case will be dismissed, but some charges may wind up being dismissed and/or repacked and re-presented to the court.
This, at least to me, is all about perception.
If you believe Trump’s acts were official acts, then Trump is off the hook.
However, if you believe Trump’s actions went beyond the purview of the office of president, then Trump will be held accountable by the court.
Regardless, the one thing I am certain of at this point is that Smith's cases will never see the inside of a courtroom before the election.
And as I have stated many times, that was the main goal of Donald Trump when he started to challenge these cases with so many motions.
If Trump can delay these cases and win the election, I am fairly confident his AG will wind up dismissing the charges in the Smith cases and the other cases may just fall apart on their own for lack of merit.
