Alec Baldwin Trial Set to Begin This Week
For months, actor Alex Baldwin has been trying to have his trial dismissed.
Baldwin was charged with manslaughter in the death of his cinematographer on the set of “Rust.”
Baldwin held the gun used in her killing, but he maintains the gun went off on its own and he never pulled the trigger.
You Killed Her
The death of 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins stunned the nation.
According to reports at the time, they were going over the shot when Baldwin aimed the gun in Hutchins’ direction.
According to Baldwin, the gun went off on its own, which was actually one of the challenges by his legal team.
When the FBI tested the weapon, they put it through all kinds of tests to check Baldwin’s claim.
Even though they were literally smashing the gun with a mallet, the gun never went off on its own.
However, the gun was damaged during the testing, so Baldwin’s attorneys argued that they were incapable of doing the full testing to prove that theory.
The judge rejected that, and the trial is now set to move forward on July 9.
The trial is expected to last about two weeks, so it should wind up by the end of the third week of July.
One trial in this killing has already taken place, with Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the 27-year-old armorer, having already been tried and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Baldwin has used this as an opportunity himself, launching a new reality TV show on TLC, which will start airing in 2025.
By all accounts, most legal experts believe that Baldwin will be found guilty in the case.
If Baldwin is sentenced to jail, it could significantly change how Hollywood films these types of scenes in its movies.
It will certainly create better gun safety awareness on set, which many stars have since come forward to say has been lacking on some lower-budget film sets.
