Trump Sentencing Delayed Until After Republican National Convention

Donald Trump is on a little bit of a winning streak right now.

Trump obliterated Joe Biden during the debate, getting a massive surge in polls afterward.

Now he has another reason to celebrate in regard to his hush-money case.

Delay It

After Trump was convicted in the hush-money case, Judge Merchan announced that sentencing would be held on July 11.

This seemed a bit earlier than we have seen in other cases, but then it all started to make sense.

The Republican National Convention is set to begin only days after, so it seemed like Merchan wanted to torpedo Trump’s nomination.

After all, Merchan could sentence Trump to house arrest or even prison time and order the sentence to be carried out immediately, if he wanted to.

Trump has already announced that he will appeal, as well as having filed a motion to have the verdict set aside due to a recent Supreme Court decision (he will not win that motion).

Trump’s team made an additional motion to have the sentencing delayed until September and shockingly, Bragg’s office did not put up a fight.

ADA Joshua Steinglass announced that they would not be fighting the decision, even though they know Trump’s motion to have the verdict set aside will fail.

He stated, “Although we believe defendant's arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion.”

So, Merchan decided to vacate the original sentencing date and issue a new one for September 18.

ADA Joshua Steinglass announced that they would not be fighting the decision, even though they know Trump’s motion to have the verdict set aside will fail.

For those of you unsure why the motion will fail, Trump’s hush-money payments were made before he was president, and even if they were after the fact, it would still fail.

Paying a hush-money payment is clearly not under official presidential duties, so the decision by the Supreme Court is not even relevant to that case.
