House GOP Votes to Defund Secretary Mayorkas
There are reports blowing up all over the place regarding the defunding of Secretary Mayorkas.
I am here to tell you the truth behind this and what is really happening.
To put it bluntly, this is a campaign stunt by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and he should not be applauded for this, but held accountable for wasting our taxpayer dollars.
Defund Him
It seems to me that most people in this country have no idea how our government actually works.
In order for this to actually happen, it would have to pass through the Senate, and then be signed by Joe Biden to take effect to defund Mayorkas, and neither of those will ever happen.
There are times when I support statement legislation to get something important on the record and have a roll call to establish where everyone sits on the matter, but this is not one of them.
We know Democrats will protect Mayorkas and the GOP despises him, so this was just a waste of time and money.
That, however, did not stop Biggs from taking a victory lap and slapping himself on the back over the legislation.
He posted on X, "Taxpayers should not be paying an unelected bureaucrat who was impeached by the House.
"That's why I sponsored an amendment to this year's Homeland Security Appropriations Act to prohibit funding to be used for the salary of DHS Secretary Mayorkas."
Taxpayers should not be paying for a cheap political stunt that you can use your campaign trail, either, which is all this was.
Again, should Mayorkas be removed from office? The answer is unquestionably yes.
But, the GOP tried to impeach Mayorkas, and they failed, so what makes them think they will be able to defund his salary?
What hurts us even more is that this is taking place so close to the election. While this may help Biggs’ campaign, it will hurt the GOP overall because the Democrats will use this as proof that the GOP is more interested in publicity stunts than passing meaningful legislation.
This falls on Speaker Johnson (R-LA) as well, as he should be shelving this type of nonsense rather than putting it on the floor for a vote.
Stop playing games, people, and get to work!
