“First of all, I think what it represents in this administration is not being honest with the American people. I learned a long time ago that the intentional omission of a material fact is the same thing as a lie. They're using a sleight of hand like a good magician to get us to focus on only what's happened in our Southern border," Former Acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan said.
"Meanwhile, what they're not telling you is what's happening across the nation. This fiscal year, we're on track for over 3 million nationwide encounters. That's a 360% increase from when they took over in the past 29 months," he added.
July numbers showed about 137,000 border crossings, up 38% from the previous month.
The numbers continue to show the lack of response to the border crisis under the Biden administration whose policies have shifted from Trump's border wall to stopping construction and allowing in record levels of migrants.
The actions have led to Republicans seeking to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, though the move has been unsuccessful.
The numbers are likely to continue, remaining a major factor for Republicans seeking to win the nomination to run against the president in 2024.
