The good news for Lori Lightfoot and Chicago is that the cold weather is finally here.
This generally chases people inside and starts to drop the violence numbers.
The bad news is that even though numbers are dropping, we are still seeing dozens of shootings every weekend, and this past weekend was no exception.
The first fatality happened around 10:25 p.m. on Friday.
A 44-year-old man was shot and killed on the 3000 block of West 63rd Street.
Amazingly, it was another 14 hours before another fatality showed up.
A 36-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon while sitting in his car on South Jeffery Boulevard.
The third fatality was yet another teenager.
A 15-year-old boy was killed at 1:40 a.m. Sunday morning, having been shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
We can only imagine what this child was doing on the street at that time of the day.
The final fatality of the weekend happened after a fight broke out at a local club on West Chicago Avenue.
As of November 6, there were 588 homicides in Chicago.
The good news for Lightfoot is that this year’s number will “only” be about 75 percent of the total from last year.
The bad news is that it has more to do with the bad aim of shooters than any policy she has put into place.
