Lori Lightfoot recently put herself in for a raise.
I am sure the families of the five dead victims this week would like to hear her justify the reason why she believes she deserves that raise.
Better yet, how about the families of the 578 homicide victims so far this year.
Another Bloody Weekend
Another weekend, more young people were killed in the Windy City.
Among this weekend’s were a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old.
One was found shot to death in a car, and the other was shot dead on the sidewalk in a drive-by shooting.
This weekend follows up a weekend where 50 people were shot, 11 fatally.
Chicago has just about every gun law imaginable in effect, yet people are dropping like flies in this city.
Lightfoot will latch onto the fact that the overall homicide rate will more than likely drop from last year when the city eclipsed 800 murders.
Quite frankly, if these thugs had better aim, the total would be much higher, and I am not saying that to be funny; it is just the reality.
On average, about 20-25 percent of shootings result in deaths, so you can see how these numbers could easily be much higher.
Changes need to be made when you have what amounts to be a mass shooting every weekend in your city.
However, I fully expect Lightfoot to win her re-election campaign and give the city more of the same for another four years.
