The 28-year-old was reportedly taking part in a heavy training session alongside friends when he suddenly collapsed. He managed to get back to his feet and, in a bid to save his life, a firefighting mate rushed him to a nearby fire station in Aguas Claras in Brazil.
There, emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate Silva. In fact, they did so for over an hour. In the end, however, they were unable to do so.
At the moment, reports are attributing his death to cardiac arrest.

Who was José Mateus Correia Silva?
More than anything else, Silva was known for his bodybuilding. The Daily Mail reports:
[Silva] had competed, finishing ninth in the Men's Physique Class up to 179cm in the 2018 South American Championships after an eleventh placing a year earlier in the Men's Bodybuilding Class up to 100kg in the Arnold Classic South America.
At the time of his death, Silva was no longer competing in bodybuilding. According to the Daily Mail, however, he "kept himself busy between training sessions preparing other bodybuilders for competitions and was the owner of an online supplements store."
Besides bodybuilding, Silva was also a qualified lawyer. It is unclear, however, whether he ever actually practiced.
Silva's brother, Tiago, has released a statement on his brother's passing. Tiago said:
I want to thank the entire team that tried to save his life. They were all very professional and provided all the support.
At the time of this writing, it is still unknown what exactly led to Silva's death. Many are left wondering weather it had anything to do with the bodybuilding itself. The answer remains unclear.
