During the 2022 election cycle, Donald Trump was bragging about a 50-point lead that he had over Ron DeSantis.
While Trump is still leading DeSantis in some polls, DeSantis has taken the lead in multiple polls, double digits in some of them.
This is the worst news possible for Trump, who has just been losing momentum ever since the outcome of the 2022 election.
When the bumps for DeSantis first started to happen, nobody thought he would actually start to take the lead against Trump.
I fully expected DeSantis to take the lead in some states, but not nationally.
Believe me, there are still plenty of polls where Trump is leading, but the numbers are far lower than they were two months ago.
In the latest Wall Street Journal poll, DeSantis is up 52-38, with an approval rating of 86 percent to Trump’s 74 percent.
The latest Suffolk University/USA Today has DeSantis leading 56 to 33.
In that poll, only 31 percent still support Trump, with 61 percent looking for someone new.
That number concerns me, however, unless Trump agrees to get on board with the eventual winner of the primary.
If Trump throws a tantrum and tells his supporters to sit out the general election to get back at the GOP, it will be very difficult for any candidate to win.
What these polls tell me is that Trump’s core supporters have still not wavered. Everyone else in the party is looking to turn the page and have someone new represent the party.
If there is anything that we have learned over the last few elections, it is that Trump’s most loyal supporters will fall in line with whatever Trump suggests.
Trump losing a primary would be a huge blow to his ego, and we all know where he goes when that happens.
I have said it before and I will say it again… Trump needs to be asked, right now, if he will support whoever comes out of the primary race if it is not him.
