2018 Adam Schiff: Pardoning Son Could Be Obstruction of Justice
In 2018, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) introduced legislation that would have investigated presidential pardons as a means of obstructing justice.
At the time, Schiff was worried that Trump would offer pardons to friends and family members tied to the bogus Russian collusion investigation.
Now that Biden has pardoned Hunter, Schiff is not saying a word.
Obstruction of Justice
Schiff had appeared on CNN to discuss his proposed legislation.
He explained the legislation, “What it would do is say that in the event the president pardons anyone in an investigation in which the President is a witness, a subject or the target, those investigative files will all be turned over to the Congress.
“The Congress ought to know whether the President is using the pardon power to obstruct justice. The American people have a right to know. I think it is clearly constitutional.
“It doesn’t prohibit him from granting a pardon, even a pardon he shouldn’t grant, but it does say that we will be able to at least find out whether the President is using this power to shield himself from liability.”
As we all know, many believe that Hunter Biden’s business activities are tied to Joe Biden, but this pardon effectively ends that discussion, which is why everyone is now looking back to Schiff for comment.
Will he hold Biden to the same standard or will he excuse the pardon given by Biden to his son?
We should note, when Special Counsel Jack Smith dropped the cases against Trump, Schiff posted, “The DOJ erred in dismissing the case against Trump.
“Though without prejudice—it can be refiled when his term ends—the dismissal upsets the status quo.
“A deferral would have meant that the case would proceed after he left office. This decision makes justice harder to achieve.”
To this point, Schiff has not posted anything about the pardon on his social media accounts, nor has he responded to requests for comment on the pardon itself.
