Rep. Jamaal Bowman Loses Seat in Primary
The first Squad member has been ousted from office, but it surely will not be the last.
The stance of the Squad to support Palestine over Israel has not stood well in states where there are heavy Jewish populations.
And that is why Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) will be looking for a new job in January.
He’s Gone
Bowman lost to Westchester County Executive George Latimer and it was not even close.
When you are incumbent and you lose by double digits, it is as much about your ideology as it is about you, and that is not good for Democrats.
Bowman is likely to make this loss about race, but that was hardly the case here.
This had far more to do with the fact he was standing on street corners in the Bronx telling people that the reports of Hamas raping and torturing young women were Israeli propaganda.
Bowman’s comments brought the wrath of pro-Israel groups down on him.
For example, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Democratic Majority for Israel (AIPAC), was among a group that spent more than $16 million to defeat Bowman.
However, don’t confuse this with a race that was bought for by AIPAC. All that group did was make sure that the people of New York were fully aware of the nonsense that Bowman was spewing.
Something else that really hurt Bowman, and this is something that we have seen with other Squad members, is that he spent very little time in his district.
One resident stated, “I could see Latimer maybe five times a week.
“I’ve only seen Bowman maybe three or four times since he’s been a congressmember.”
Bowman was about headlines and personal glory, like AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and the rest of their group.
Now, sadly, not all of those Squad members will be removed from office due to the makeup of their districts, but Rep. Cori Bush (R-MO) is definitely on a lifeline right now, with the same polls that predicted a Bowman loss in the primary pointing to Bush losing her primary race as well.
One down… let’s keep that tally growing.
