Melania Trump makes notable return to campaign trail at Log Cabin Republicans' event
Though she has been the subject of speculation regarding her level of engagement with her husband's presidential bid, former first lady Melania Trump has just re-entered the fray in a notable way.
Mrs. Trump was poised on Saturday to attend a Mar-a-Lago fundraiser for the Log Cabin Republicans, the largest GOP LGBT group in the country, marking a high-profile return to the campaign trail, as the Washington Times reports.
Key Florida fundraiser planned
According to Newsweek, the event has succeeded in generating an impressive fundraising haul for the advocacy group, an outcome attributed in large part to Mrs. Trump's involvement.
Charles Moran, president of the Log Cabin Republicans, indicated that the event has brought in upwards of $1 million since it was first announced earlier in April.
Moran explained, “This event did remarkably well in a very short period of time once we announced it.”
“As you know, Mrs. Trump is very deliberate in the efforts she gets behind, so the attention of this event did help drive swift participation from those wanting to contribute and attend,” Moran added.
According to its website the group self-describes as the nation's “largest organization representing LGBT conservatives and straight allies who support fairness, freedom, and equality for all Americans.”
Melania's triumphant return
Though she was largely absent from the initial phases of her husband's campaign for another term in the Oval Office, Mrs. Trump has been increasing her visibility in recent weeks, as evidenced by her Saturday fundraiser appearance.
In addition, she gave an interview to Fox News Digital ahead of the event in which she underscored the importance of unity across the nation and said that “equality” must be the “everyday experience of every American.”
“Individual freedom provides a unifying set of principles, and ultimately establishes our American way,” the former first lady declared.
She went on, “Together, we must nourish and safeguard the seeds of liberty. Because, when successful, America blossoms into a magnificent place where everyone can practice their beliefs, share new ideas, and express individualism -- this is when we are our best.”
If these statements are indicative of the messages Mrs. Trump plans to convey while on the campaign trail in the coming months, Americans in large numbers will assuredly welcome her back with open arms.
