Former Honduran President Sentenced to 45 Years

Is anyone really surprised that the former president of Honduras has found himself in a legal mess?

I am speaking about former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez.

He has just been sentenced to more than four decades in jail for drug trafficking.

Corrupt from Top to Bottom

I am still awaiting notification of any government that is not just blatantly corrupt.

Hernandez, 55, of course, says that he is innocent and was “wrongly and unjustly accused.”

Hernandez was tried in New York earlier this year, where he was found guilty on three different drug trafficking charges.

He had been extradited from Honduras back to the United States on charges back in 2022.

According to the report, he had been accused of “conspiring with drug cartels during his tenure as they moved more than 400 tons of cocaine through Honduras toward the United States.”

For his efforts, he received millions in bribes that he used to help his political career.

Hernandez served as president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that Hernández “abused his position as president of Honduras to operate the country as a narco-state where violent drug traffickers were allowed to operate with virtual impunity, and the people of Honduras and the United States were forced to suffer the consequences.”

The allegations also noted that the Honduran National Police were used in the scheme.

Just another corrupt politician abusing his power.

Perhaps Garland will start using his office to root out corrupt government officials in our government, and he can start with his office and that of the White House.
