Election Disqualification of Challenger to Judge in Trump's Georgia Case Upheld

There was at least one candidate who had planned to run against the judge presiding over former President Donald Trump's Georgia election interference case.

Not anymore.

Tiffani Johnson has been disqualified.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee is the man currently presiding over the case of Donald Trump, but at least two people were trying to come for his seat.

At least one of them still might be able to present a challenge, but it doesn't look as though it's going to be Tiffani Johnson.

Earlier in April 2024, an administrative law judge found that Johnson was not qualified to run for the seat after Tiffani failed to appear at a hearing challenging her eligibility.

Tiffani Johnson's absence led to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger adopting the decision that she was not qualified to come after McAfee's position.

Johnson did not agree with that decision and filed a petition for a review of that decision in Fulton County Superior Court.

All of McAfee's Fulton County Superior Court colleagues were recused from the decision, and it was left up to a judge in neighboring DeKalb County.

At the end of the hearing, DeKalb Superior Court Judge Stacey Hydrick agreed that Johnson should not be eligible to run for McAfee's position.

Johnson's removal from the race means that McAfee is facing only one other person in the contest to hold onto his seat, civil rights attorney Robert Patillo.

The polling office is likely going to have to take some unique measures because of this decision's proximity to voting day.

It's the law that "if a candidate is determined not to be qualified, that person’s name should be withheld from the ballot or stricken from any ballots. If there isn’t enough time to strike the candidate’s name, prominent notices are to be placed at polling places advising voters that the candidate is disqualified and that votes cast for her will not be counted," according to Yahoo.
