Democrats Reclaim Michigan House in Special Election

On Tuesday, Michigan held a special election to fill two seats that had been vacated in the state legislature.

Democrats easily won both seats, giving Democrats full control of the state legislature for the first time in decades.

We can expect Democrats to chirp about this, but realistically, the GOP had no chance of winning either of these seats.

Good or Bad Sign

I would all but guarantee there will be mainstream media outlets saying this is not a good sign for the GOP in November, but I am going to disagree with that.

By now, you guys know I am a straight shooter when it comes to calling these races, but D-13 and D-25 in Michigan are both Democrat strongholds.

That being the case, it was not surprising that Mai Xiong and Peter Herzberg won their respective races.

After the election results were announced, Xiong posted, “I am incredibly humbled by the overwhelming support of the voters of the 13th House District, who have chosen me to represent our community as the next State Representative.”

While I don't want to underplay the significance of Democrats holding complete control of the state now, there is a very good chance that will all change soon enough.

I say this because Donald Trump is currently beating Joe Biden in Michigan, and has been beating him for quite some time.

Trump’s lead has stretched from two points to eight over the last few months, so the election clearly does not reflect how people plan on voting right now.

Having said that, we know Biden and Democrats will now make a big push in Michigan because this state is key to one of Biden’s paths to victory.

If Biden can win Pennsylvania, where he is currently leading, Michigan, and Wisconsin, where Biden is currently trialing, that single electoral vote from Nebraska could put him right on the number.
