Chris Pratt stunt double dies at 47

Antonio "Tony" McFarr, the Hollywood stunt double for actor Chris Pratt, has died at the age of 47.

People Magazine reports that McFarr was found dead in his Florida home on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Here's what we know so far:

It was McFarr's mother, Donna, who first revealed to TMZ the sad news that her son had passed away.

"The daredevil performer's mother, Donna, tells us he passed away Monday at his home just outside Orlando -- and while we're told the family doesn't know the exact circumstances of his death just yet . . . Donna does say his passing is unexpected and shocking," the outlet reported.

It added, "She says Tony was active and healthy ... and we're told the medical examiner's office is running toxicology tests now. The Orange County Medical Examiner confirms to us they have the case ... and that an official cause is still pending."

As of the time of this writing, no further updates have been provided on McFarr's cause of death.

Who was Tony McFarr?

As stated at the outset, he was a Hollywood stunt double. He is particularly well-known for filling in for Chris Pratt in such movies as Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, among others.

McFarr, however, also was the stunt double for several other Hollywood actors.

TMZ reports:

Tony began his stunt career in the industry in an episode of the network television hit "Bones" back in 2011. He went on to perform stunts in well-known projects like Homeland, Teen Wolf, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1, Furious 7, Captain America: Civil War, The Accountant, and Allegiant among many more films.

McFarr first met up with Pratt in 2015, on the set of Jurassic World, and, according to reports, the two would go on to build a strong professional relationship.

"Devastated"

Pratt, according to the New York Posthas released a statement expressing how "devastated" he is at the news of McFarr's passing.

"Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double Tony McFarr. We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set. I’ll never forget his toughness," Pratt said.

He continued, "I remember he took a nasty shot to the head (in the title sequence of Guardians 2) and got several staples in his head – he came right back to work ready to go again. He was an absolute stud. He was always a gentleman and professional."

Pratt concluded by saying that McFarr will "be missed."
